Valentino offers a hybrid working schedule with three days in office, and two days remote. This role is a full-time permanent position based in our New York Office.

 

 

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

 

Overview:

The Manager of Accounting, reporting to the Americas Director of Accounting , manages through her/his leadership all Accounting Operations: General Accounting, Lease Accounting, Cost Accounting, Taxes across the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The Manager of Accounting functions is collaborating with internal business partners inclusive of the Italy Corporate Headquarters.

 

Key Responsibilities:

LEADERSHIP

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the extended accounting team, including setting team member goals, facilitating training, and fostering professional development.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Americas management team and maintain strong working relationships with peers at Valentino Headquarters in Milan, seeking guidance when necessary, sharing best practice etc.
  • Manage a variety of vendor relationships related to governmental agencies, auditors, banks, insurance, etc.

 

ACCOUNTING/MONTH-END CLOSE PROCESS

  • Lead and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for USA, Canada and Mexico entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established timelines
  • Review and validate journal entries, accruals, provisions, and account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with IFRS and US GAAP and group accounting policies
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, including P&L, and Balance Sheet
  • Partner closely with Retail, Wholesale, Supply Chain, and FP&A teams to ensure proper cut-off, revenue recognition, and expense allocation
  • Monitor and analyze month-over-month variances, providing clear explanations and insights into regional and global finance leadership
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment for inventory, COGS, intercompany transactions, leases, and fixed assets
  • Coordinate with the Group Finance team to meet consolidation and reporting deadlines, including submission of reporting packages
  • Continuously enhance close efficiency through process improvements, standardization, and automation, while maintaining a strong control environment
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, and audit standards throughout the close cycle

 

GOVERNANCE, INTERNAL CONTROLS & COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure strict adherence to Group accounting policies, internal control frameworks, and governance standards across all legal entities
  • Maintain and strengthen a robust internal control environment, including documentation, execution, and ongoing assessment of key controls
  • Act as a key finance partner during internal audits, external audits, and group reviews, ensuring timely resolution of findings and recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS & US GAAP, local statutory requirements, and Group reporting guidelines
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and process documentation, ensuring consistency and scalability
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on accounting and reporting practices within the region
  • Safeguard the integrity of financial data through disciplined data governance, system controls, and access management
  • Promote a culture of financial discipline, transparency, and ethical conduct, aligned with the values of a luxury maison

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; CPA (plus)
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within luxury, fashion, retail, or consumer goods environments
  • Solid expertise in IFRS and US GAAP, month-end close, and financial reporting within a multi-entity or multinational organization
  • Proven experience with internal controls, and audit coordination
  • Strong knowledge of retail and wholesale accounting, including revenue recognition, inventory, COGS, and intercompany transactions
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP S4H and Tagetik); advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex close processes in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and clearly communicate insights to senior stakeholders
  • Experience working with cross-functional and international teams, including collaboration with Group Finance
  • High level of attention to detail, discretion, and professional integrity, with a mindset aligned to luxury brand values
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to lead process improvements while maintaining rigor, compliance, and brand standards.

Budgeted Salary - $100-120K + bonus (based on experience)
